How do I format my book for publication?
How do I format my book for publication?
Formatting helps make your book easier to read and gives it a more professional look before publication.
In PubliWrite, you can use the editor and formatting settings to organize your manuscript, adjust the way your text appears, and prepare your book for review.
What can I format in PubliWrite?
Depending on your book setup, you can format elements such as:
- Font style
- Paragraph structure
- Headings
- Chapter titles
- Page breaks
- Page numbers
- Front matter
- Back matter
- Images, where available
- Ornamental breaks or decorative elements, where available
Organize your manuscript structure
Before submitting your book, make sure your manuscript is organized clearly.
A typical book may include:
- Front matter — content that appears before the main text, such as a title page, copyright page, dedication, foreword, or preface.
- Chapters — the main sections of your book.
- Back matter — content that appears after the main text, such as acknowledgements, author notes, appendices, glossary, bibliography, or suggested reading.
You do not need to include every section. Choose the sections that make sense for your book.

Use clear chapter formatting
Each chapter should begin in a clear and consistent way.
Before publishing, check that:
- Chapter titles are easy to identify
- Chapters start in the right place
- Page breaks are used between chapters
- The text does not rely on repeated empty lines for spacing
- Headings and subheadings are styled consistently
Check paragraph and text formatting
Your text should be easy to read across the whole book.
Before submitting, review your manuscript for:
- Inconsistent font styles
- Irregular spacing
- Large gaps between paragraphs
- Missing or repeated headings
- Unwanted line breaks
- Text that appears misaligned
- Images that are not placed correctly, where applicable
Preview your book before submitting
Before publishing, use PubliWrite’s preview tool (for books created via PubliWrite's editor) to review how your book will appear to readers.
The preview can help you catch formatting issues such as:
- Chapters starting in the wrong place
- Text alignment problems
- Missing page breaks
- Incorrect spacing
- Images or decorative elements appearing incorrectly
- Sections that do not look the way you expected
If something looks wrong in the preview, return to the editor, adjust the formatting, and preview the book again before submitting it.

Formatting tips before publication
Before sending your book for review, we recommend checking that:
- Your manuscript is complete
- Your chapters are in the correct order
- Front matter and back matter are placed correctly
- Page breaks are used where needed
- Paragraphs and headings are consistent
- The preview looks correct
- There are no obvious formatting errors
