How do I choose a book design (theme)?

Book design lets you pick a ready-made design theme for your book's interior — fonts, drop caps, ornaments, and layout — all in one click, straight from the preview. The design you pick updates instantly, so you can compare options before deciding.

Opening Book design

From the Book Preview panel, open Book design to browse available themes.

Browsing designs by genre

Designs are organized by genre, so you can browse the styles that fit your book. Categories include:

  • All
  • Literary Fiction
  • Romance
  • Thriller & Mystery
  • And more, depending on what's available

Each genre includes a short description (for example, Literary Fiction is described as "For stories carried by their characters," and Romance as "For books that make hearts race") along with a small preview of each design's typeface and layout.

Picking a design

Each design shows a live sample of how a chapter opening will look, along with a short list of what it includes — for example, a specific font, drop caps, ornaments, or page numbers. To pick a design:

  1. Browse the available themes by genre.
  2. Compare the live samples shown for each design.
  3. Click the design you want. The main preview on the right updates instantly to reflect your choice.

Can I edit a design after picking it?

Choosing a design here applies a ready-made combination of settings — it's a pick-only step, not an editor. If you want to fine-tune individual settings, such as switching to a different font or turning drop caps on or off, do that from the Formatting settings instead. For details, see the related article below.

Saving your design

Once you've picked a design you're happy with, click Save this design, then Done to close the panel.
