PubliWrite occasionally runs writing competitions and themed campaigns for authors and readers.
This page lists past PubliWrite competitions, including their themes, timelines, prizes, and main entry details.
Christmas Competition 2024
PubliWrite’s Christmas Competition 2024 was the platform’s first thematic writing contest.
Theme
The theme of the competition was Christmas.
Authors were invited to submit original stories connected to the holiday season.
Author prize
The author prize included:
- $250
- PubliWrite’s exclusive Bookshelf Mug
Entry requirements
To enter the competition, submissions needed to meet the following requirements:
- Theme: Christmas
- Word count: 3,000–5,000 words
- Language: English
- The submission had to be original content
- The author needed to own the copyright to the uploaded manuscript
- Harmful or discriminatory content was not accepted
- The content had to be written using PubliWrite’s collaborative editor
- The author needed a PubliWrite account and had to agree to the platform’s Terms & Conditions
- The competition checkbox had to be selected when publishing the story
- Authors could invite up to four collaborators, such as co-authors, editors, or illustrators
Timeline
- Manuscript submission and review period: December 2–20
- Internal review: December 21–24
- Winner announcement: December 25
Additional information
Submitted manuscripts went through a compliance review to make sure they followed the contest rules.
A book cover was required for submission. Authors could also set a price for their manuscript, although offering the story for free was recommended to increase visibility during the contest.
How the winner was chosen
The winner was determined based on a scoring system using the Bayesian Weighted Rating formula.
Reviewer prize
Review readers also had the chance to win a $50 prize.
Each completed review counted as one entry into the reviewer raffle.
Reviewer guidelines included:
- Reviewers had to read each story in full before submitting a review
- Reviews containing harmful or discriminatory content were not accepted
March Contest: The Many Faces of Women
PubliWrite’s March Contest, The Many Faces of Women, invited authors to explore stories connected to womanhood, identity, strength, vulnerability, ambition, and lived experience.
Theme
The theme of the contest was Women.
Authors were invited to write fiction or nonfiction, historical or futuristic, personal or imagined stories that explored the many faces of women.
Writers could draw from personal experiences, historical figures, fictional characters, or speculative concepts.
Author prize
The author prize was:
- $300
Reviewer prize
Review readers had the chance to win:
- $50
Each completed review counted as one entry into the reviewer raffle.

- Authors could invite up to four collaborators, such as co-authors, editors, or illustrators
