Commercial use, Reference rights, Training rights

At the final step of creating a licensing agreement on PubliRights, you’ll see options related to how your content can be used. Here’s what each of them means and how to choose wisely:

1. Commercial Use:
When enabled, you grant permission for your content to be used in commercial contexts — meaning the AI model you train using the material can be monetised.

If you disable this, your work can only be used non-commercially (e.g., training models that are intended for internal usage or are not commercialised).

2. Reference Rights:
This allows AI systems or apps to display short excerpts or summaries of your content when responding to user queries — similar to how a search engine or digital assistant might quote your book.

This right does not permit your content to be used for AI training without attribution or reference to the original work.

You retain visibility and attribution, and all usage remains traceable and auditable.

3. Training Rights:
This gives permission for your content to be used as training data for AI models. Your content is added to large datasets and used to "teach" AI how to understand or generate language or content.

This is a deeper level of access, and attribution is typically not guaranteed. It can bring broader exposure but may involve more risk.

Tips:

You can enable both reference and training rights if you want to maximise exposure.

If you're unsure, consider allowing only reference rights to maintain visibility with greater control.

You must select at least one type of right before submitting the licensing agreement.
